The course explores in depth the many different concepts and beliefs in Judaism about God, human character, human destiny, the Jewish people, Torah, ritual, prayer, and the Messiah. The course will examine each concept within biblical, rabbinic, philosophic, kabbalistic, and modern Jewish thought as well as the views of contemporary Orthodox, Conservative, Reconstructionist, and Reform Judaism. This course is based on David Ariel’s What Do Jews Believe? The Spiritual Foundations of Judaism.
